Over Due Update

It’s been quite a long time since the last update. Now that I have an app on my phone for wordpress, convenience wins:) Welcome to 2011 Pure Fusion Designs. We are newer, wiser, and bigger than ever before. As our partnership with Design Mark expands, things around here will continue to shape up.

Since the winter of 2010, we have merged teams and taken on new and interesting challenges. Renovations and new services are clearly on the horizon, along with full time service with Rogers Digital Media managing web infrastructure.

Racing projects are shelved, and new wilderness expeditions are being planned. Looking forward, expect lots of photos and reports on how the team is doing (all seven of us).

Shannonville Motorsports Park w/Kplayground

On November 1, 2009, I attended a track day at Shannonville with Kplayground (aka Battle Endless). The day was great – perfect weather, small group. Had a blast. Here are some pix.

Something New

Life is good. New things happen all the time. Geocaching is great fun for the whole family!

Here is a picture of Rebecca and I on Georgian Bay during the fall of 2009:

Happy times :)

Lapping at TMP April 4, 2009

The season has started! I got out with a group of drivers from JDMRides.ca for a windy day at the track. Here is a videa created from the days activities. I used iMovie from iLife 09 which was very easy to learn.

Calabogie 2008 Solosprint Nationals

Calabogie 2008 Solosprint Nationals

There are a few ideas that come to mind when i think about what a car is for. Sometimes they are like a toy that you tinker with endlessly. When i purchased my first car in 1997, after being promoted at Interlog (ISP), i knew i would eventually build a race car. After years of near-neglect, and eventually track prep, the Teal Beast is complete. The JDM D15B motor is mated to the transmission intended for the Japanese market Civic VTi. The setup for my 1992 hatch seems perfect with the combination of drivetrain, and suspension.

I have a new appreciation for the car, the setup, and the entire package. On the surface, the car has some of the usual body rust, dented hood and fenders, and replace the rusted out and holy roof. Some of these issues will be ignored for now, and others will be solved with as little money as possible. A new project will be started soon which combines performance and presentation. Apparently, this is something sponsors appreciate! Here is a picture of the civic in the fall of 2008 at a Solosprint event.

I have lots of plans for 2009, and hope to get out for lots of driving. By the end of the summer, i will hopefully have a trailer for the civic, and a truck. There is only so far you can push a car that is needed for the drive home.

Painting

Livingroom before

I don’t enjoy painting. I must admit the benefits of a newly painted room out-weigh the pain involved in changing colours. If a room is small, it tends to feel even smaller when the walls are a dark colour.

My living room has been painted a dark shade of purple for a number of years, and is decidedly dreary in a small room. I have lots of plants now, and they would appreciate more light, and for longer each day. Since i can’t change the rules of the sun, I can lighten the walls up.

Ontario Solosprints – Shannonville Pro Track

Solosprint, a form of grassroots motorsports, is hosted by various clubs on professional quality race tracks. It is known by enthusiasts as Solo 1, and it is a step up from Autoslalom in that driving speeds are much faster, requiring different skills and more serious attention to safety. I have recently taken the leap from my daily driver skills to the solo1 series in Ontario, and this article will highlight some things I learned in this entry phase to racing. I was not ready for the caliber of driving at the start of the season, and decided to participate in the last two events as a warm up for next season.

HADA Autocross

HADA Autocross Event #5

On Saturday Sept 1, 2007, HADA hosted its final autocross event of the series . The course layout at the Brampton Powerade Centre was quick and smooth, with a good flow and minimal harsh turns. I had my entire crew along for this event, including Julian, Kyra and Lydia. My friend Zoli also joined us to help me bring the Civic to the event, and participate. When I bring the kids along, I always need a co-driver or at least someone to drive the Civic up to the event, as its impossible to drive two cars at once, and I won’t compete in the Matrix. Perhaps in the future I will have a way to tow the Civic behind the Matrix or another vehicle, but not any time soon. I was lucky to have some great friends help out throughout the day, including Erin, Ken and Bryan who helped with tents, car prep, and keeping children in line.

Motorsports Hobby

I’ve recently become involved with grassroots motorsports. There are many opportunities for enthusiasts to take part without spending too much money. My recent involvement with autocross, also known as autoslalom, has improved my driving, and satisfied my interest in going fast with aggressive turning. This season i have participated in many events hosted by MSOC, and HADA. I’m an active member of HADA, which focuses on Honda and Acura model cars. I’ve also participated, and won, events hosted by the Competition Corvette club. Events are held at either the Brampton Powerade Centre (hockey arena) or the Bronte Creek GO station.

Competition Corvette Autocross July 22, 2007

This weekend wasn’t initially on my schedule, and turned out well. HADA bumped its event from Saturday to Sept 1, which gave me some time for much overdue yard work. Sunday was a toss up between a Provincial race in Sarnia, or a local race at Bronte GO station. The choice was to stay local, instead of bouncing along the 401 for 3+ hrs. The GO station lot was mostly empty, except for one stray race car, oddly enough. The car belonged to a well known provincial racer, who various people attempted to call. Eventually things were resolved, and the race started.
